Your private Egyptologist tour guide will collect you up from your hotel or cruise boat in Aswan in the early morning and take you to the Aswan airport for a short flight to Abu Simbel. Explore the two temples of Abu Simbel, both cut out of a single piece of rock and considered to be masterpieces of ancient Egypt. The temples were built by King Ramses II around 1200 BC. One temple is dedicated to King Ramses II and the second temple is dedicated to his favorite wife, Queen Nefertari. The temples were discovered in 1813, almost completely covered with sand. The Egyptian government, with the help of UNESCO, moved the temples in 1960 to prevent them from being flooded when the Aswan High Dam was built. After your tour, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Aswan, where you will be returned to your hotel or cruise boat.
